Today is the last blog of this semester because the classes are coming to an end; this is why today’s topic will be about my experience on this course. I will talk about how I have learned in the classes that I have had.

I think that English for a university student is really important for times like these. This is because for example, in many classes they hand out texts that are written in English because the professional investigation doesn’t matter the area of study, use this language as an international way of saying things so that it can be read and understood by anyone in the world. This is why I think that the use of the blog is useful to exercise daily this language.

The truth is that it is really hard for me to learn this language; since I don’t really get along with the subject and that I started learning it when I was already older around seventh grade. This is why I think that sometimes it is really hard for me in comparison to my other classmates that had the chance to study it and learn it since they were very little. This is also why I don’t use English much outside of class, but I am able to understand parts of the conversation when people from outside of Chile talk in English.

But either way I would like to learn how to talk English fluently, but I think that it would be easier for me to learn when I find the right time and actually want to learn not when I have to do it for academicals purpose because of the career I’m studying.

Today I will talk about year 2014. Specifically, the English class, because I feel that the other classes have much yet.

There is no doubt that when I have passed the english levels I have learned many new thing but I have to admit that it is very hard for me sometimes. Even though I understand the basics, when I have to do things like listening, everything becomes very hard, but with a big amount of practice class to class it has helped me very much. On the other hand, I still have to practice how to have fluent conversations with people, but I think that in order to talk in english first I have to leave my embarrassment aside.

This semester has been very similar to the one before when it comes down to how we are being evaluated. I think that the methods use to evaluate if you have learned are very good because it is how you are supposed to evaluate when you are learning a new language. The only thing I think has to be taken into consideration are the blogs, because sometimes many of us didn’t know how to handle the topic which made it even harder to do it in english for example de “ Genetic Modified Organisms” and  “Permaculture”.

I hope I keep on learning on my own when this course ends, because like we all know, english has become something fundamental for any job or in our case as foresters, to realize good investigations. This is because many of the articles related to de career are written in this language.

Today I will talk about facebook.

The truth is I don’t use facebook that much, when I do use it is to coordinate projects for the university. I use it little because I use another way of communication, Whatsapp, because I find it more comfortable to talk to someone since I just have on my phone where as if I have facebook on my phone it takes away a lot of battery so you really need to use it from a computer.

The benefits that facebook has are that I can share the songs that I like the most on my wall, so that other people can also hear them and maybe they would like them also and talk to people that I haven’t seen for a long time such as friends that I have had when I was younger and somehow people find each other again on this site or even people that I would like to meet.

On the other hand I also has disadvantages for example that since anyone can talk to you sometimes bad people can talk to you and they can have bad intentions towards you  so that is not good. Another disadvantage is that there are people that always send invitations to play some games son that is pretty annoying and I don’t like that very much. But now facebook has the capacity to block some of these things with security but there are people that can still find you on this platform.

I think that recycling is very important for the environment, but sadly in our country it is not very frequent because people are not very organized and also it is not that cheap to create and maintain institutions that do this job.

I honestly do not recycle very much and I don’t participate in any organization related to this, but I would like to re use certain materials and build art work that surprises people in the streets.

For example, I have seen a very innovative idea that recycles old soda bottles and turns them into pots for hanging plants, it is a very good idea but not that many people do it. I f we consider the costs of this activity they are less than the ones for regular pots, like the ones bought in the store.

I think that in Santiago this new way of thinking is not very used because there isn’t much information about it and there isn’t any motivation from the government, and they don’t support the independent organization that do recycling in our country.

As I said before, I don’t recycle much, but I do use public transportation and walk so I help reduce a little bit acustic and air contamination that is caused by cars and the over population of these, Even if it is little it is still a very good way to help the environment.

I hope you are fine :)Today I will talk about GMOs.The letters GMO stands for “Genetically modified organism” and they are organisms that their genetic material has been changed because of different techniques. These GMOs can , in theory, be found in any field with living organisms such as crops or fish and they are generally used in crops to get better quality products for example a type of corn that gives bigger corns or in fish to create commercial products like glow in the dark fish. In forestry genetic modified organisms are used very often in species like Pinus radiata to get better products such as a better type of wood or in other species so that they can survive to colder climates or less rain. By simply selecting the better species and only using those seeds they are already making a GMO, because they are not only created in labs but also by using the better seeds. In my field these things can be harmful when they are the only ones that are being planted and this can be dangerous for preserving the species. I think that some GMOs are not that harmful for people such as when selecting better crops that have a better flavor and such, but when new things are created it is very complex because they are not natural and they are made in a lab.See you! Today I will talk about my future job.  

When I first started with forestry, I always thought of working outside in the fresh open air, in a natural forest or in a plantation, but always trying to be the least as possible in an office.

About what I want to work on, I honestly do not know and I am not very sure because with the time passing Y learns different things and I like them even more and in every one that I learn I would happily work on. I believe that every time I like it more the subjects of my new academic period.

Currently, I have offered field trips in the future may be my steady job, but I have not always been able to go. However, I like the idea of constantly traveling.

After you finish studying, I would like to work as “guardaparques” a while, because I think it's very entertaining and I know many places.  So could visit: Torres del Paine, Río de los Cipreses, Vicente Pérez Rosales and others.

Nature gives a huge reward. Pablo Neruda said, "If the mountain will not stop you can never enjoy the scenery."

Today I will talk about animals.

Animals… I think that they a big company for people, they cheer them up every day and distract them from the routine.

I have always liked dogs, but ever since I live in my department, because of the space, I have a hamster of color gray, it is young and it called Math hamster; it is Chinese hamster. But in general, I like all types of animals domestic.

Of the wild animals the one that I like the most is the chameleons, because they can change colors to blend in with the place.

About the proper and responsible owning of pets, I think that the government should finance the neutering of them, and should promote conscience in the people, because it is important that the animals do not suffer, that the do not pass hunger and that they can have a home where they are taken care of.

I wish the state will allocate some of their funds for the animals that have been abandoned on the streets could receive food and home, but this is not a priority for Chile.

Today I will talk about concerts. Last year in 2013 on 5 of November I went to a festival which was in Club Hípico and it is called Frontera music festival.
Here I got to see Dread Mar I who is a singer from Argentina that sing reggae music. He sings really well and in the middle of the show he takes of his hat and starts dancing so his long hair goes everywhere.
I also liked that day very much because I was with someone very special to me and that made the concert even better.
Also, they had artists that I like, for example: “Los tetas”, “Los fabulosos Cadilacs”, “Movimiento original”, “Zona Ganjah” and others.
I hope to go this year, but not if you have the money required for entry. It is very expensive.

I’m going to talk about a conference called "The earth from Above" by Yann-Arthus- Bertrand. He is an ecologist and his work is to show our impact on our planet. For example: Alberta, Coral reef in New Caledonia and North Pole; these places have been polluted and the global warming destroys everything in the world. Also, he talks about Palm tree plantation in Borneo, because every year we lose 50 thousand square miles in deforestation.

I think that is a very good video because Yann-Bertrand talks our relationship with the Earth. Also, the video shows how come we have not yet understood that we are going at a much faster pace than the planet can sustain. However, we all have the power to change this trend for the better.

Today we will talk about the Permacultura.

The link to the video f this week is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG_vRG66wkA  and the name of the video is “7 Food Forests in 7 minutes with Geoff Lawton”.

This system called Permacultura, takes everything you delivery ecosystem. They used all resources, but always taking care it.

They study the soil with organic matter to lead the germination of the seeds. Also, they study the growth of the plants in summer and winter, because in summer the plants have more growth, this happens because they have more nutrients available.

I think that the Permaculture is good, because reused, reduced and recycled. Also help with the contamination and deforestation. It is more important, because I think that in the future will be massively implemented.

I like this video because the permacultura is very important for everyone. Also this is important for my area of study because the pollution, with the time, will reverberate in the available minerals in the soil and this way there would be minor production or conservation.

Today there will be two post, we will talk about blogging experience.

I think that writing the blog each week has helped us to get to know the people that are in the class and get to learn what they think also it is a good way to practice our English. I think this blog is effective because we practice so much each class. I hope the blog has been helpful to you all.

The topics that given to write were very good because they were very different every time so everybody got to write about something they like and writing about it was not boring. For example, I don’t like talk about football but I liked talk about travels and films. 

Sometimes I didn’t know what to write in each post because sometimes it was difficult to write in English so that was very hard.

I think that we should writing about a topic one week to election because it would be fun! I had talked about animals , friends or singers.

I hope this blog is useful for future students of English B1. I hope you liked my post because this was the last.

Today we will talk about a country I´d like to visit.

One dream in my life is travelling, but with rucksack ... backpacking hike. I would like visit and meet different people, learn about different cultures and explore my country. Last summer I went to the south of Chile: Frutillar, Pueto Montt,Puerto Varas, Valdivia,Osorno, Chillán, Ancud, Castro and Chiloé. Still a long way to go. This year I hope to go north of Chile, arrive at Towers of Paine.

I've only visited Tacna, Peru; but I would go to France because I want to go to the Eiffel Tower and also I want to try French food. I think they have a very interesting culture. I also like to go to Spain in exchange for college.

I'd like to visit any country because every place has a story to tell. I hope to have the opportunity to travel the world but first Chile because it has beautiful scenery.

Today we will talk about the My Sister's Keeper or also called La decisión más difícil, my favorite film.

In general, my favorites films are from comedy or love, because it’s are from more happiness and don’t have war or death.

My favorite actors are Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, ¿Why? , I don’t sure, but I think it’s because they are fun when acting.

Regarding my favorite film, la decisión más difícil, this movie shows the struggles and sacrifices that many families  live because someone in your family have cancer. It shows the drama, love, fighting, and encouragement that all people face in this battle.

The acting is believable and you can really see the heartbreak of the family. But, there were also some funny moments.

If you see this movie and don't cry, than you don't have a heart.

In general, a brilliant film with a strong message.

Today we will talk about the pollution of heavy metals.

This article talks about a study led by a team of the University of Chile where they investigate the pollution of heavy metals like copper or zinc in water and soils of our country. This study was done in the central part of our country and the results showed that the copper levels where high in the water and that affects the soil directly so it was also contaminated. This research also shows the content of the heavy metals in rivers like Mapocho where the copper was the highest of them all.

I like this article because water is very important for everyone and it talks about the place where we live in the country. This is important for my area of study because it is producing pollution which, with the time, will reverberate in the available minerals in the soil and this way there would be minor production or conservation.

Today we will talk about The World Soccer Championship 2014:

I would like to say that from my point of view football is overrated, because too much money is invested in this sport, it is not the only existing!

I dont think that the world soccer championship is good for Brazil. I think that the people are right because in this country there is much poverty in some places and instead of using the money in the championship it should be used to help these people.

I think that as in Chile, the biggest problem is that the government is not aware; this is why the people are harmed.

I think that the people in Brazil protest because there are many places that poverty is really extreme and the government is only putting money into the championship and not into helping the the people.

This photograph was taken this summer 2014 for Camila Núñez, my best friend of the college, in the “National Park Chiloé”; after of my professional practice in Frutillar.

These vacations are the first ones that I have spent together with my friends, without my family. They were the best! I would like to go next year to “Towers of the Paine” and in order to do that we need more money that last time. I expect to know many places more.

I like this picture because captured important moment for me. Each time I look this picture It´s like I´m at this park enjoying your beauty and meeting new people.

How are you this week?

Today we will talk about the disaster in Valparaiso.

I think that fire is negative thing because it is miss of culture in the people. This tragedy happened because Chile don’t have “emergency project” and the people are not informed.

In my opinion, it is necessary that different institution, such as: Conaf, Firefighter, city hall and the people work together for to live in a sure place.  I say this because there people in Valparaíso that did not have water in his houses, such as: the hill where the tragedy happened.

Nowadays, the technology is a good and great tool so I think that is necessary to use. For example: helicopters with water loads ready at all time.

Disasters like this one can be prevented!

Today we will talk about… “The technology”

The truth is that I don’t like to be dependent of the technology, but it is necessary nowadays.

First, THE COMPUTER… for the works in the University already for search information in the web or to send works.

In case of THE CELLULAR PHONE… it is necessary to communicate with the persons, for example, to speak with my friends because I can’t see them very much since I am studying in the university.

I believe that it is bad that the majority of the children are a lot of time in the games of computers and do not play in the parks… It is worrying. Or not??

Today we will talk about what is going in the university this year with the subjects.
This semester we apply the things we learned last year with much more detail and the subjects that we have now are more specific.I believe that every time I like it more the subjects of my new academic period.As extracurricular activity I help out in the laboratory of silviculture (assistantship) so that I can keep the things that we learned last year fresher so that I don’t forget them.
I expect to learn more things this year and to obtain good qualifications.

 Today we will talk about immigration in Chile. I think that immigration in our country is a good thing because it brings people with a different culture to Chile and they do jobs that many people here do not want to do for different reasons. A negative thing that might bring is that Chile will become more populated with these immigrants. I think that our country can’t have many people living here because it is going to become full of people and there will be no space to live and we can’t give them a good life for all of the people that come here.
